Day Eight of The 30 Day Vegan Challenge

I woke up so late today and had an appointment to get to. I had no time to eat so when I got home in the early afternoon I had beans on toast. By the time my three hour wait to eat again had passed I had to leave for college. When I got home from college I shoved a bean burger and wedges in the oven for a rather late dinner! New favourite alternative to mayonaise - BBQ sauce.

Unfortunately no veggies at all today but I just didn't have time for good meals! I'd have been ok if I had leftover food from the night before. But it does show you can be busy and on the go and still eat vegan.

I do have to admit I ate a packet of mini cheddars at college which aren't strictly vegan :S slap on the wrist for me. Can anyone tell me what crisps are vegan? I know most probably are but they often have weird ingredients on the flavourings that I have no idea what they mean.

  1. Ah, vegan or not vegan crisps, the trap awaiting all of us down the dimly lit pub after a couple of pints, being long sighted and hungry for bar snacks with an incredibly diminutive font size.....the main culprit to look out for is milk. Normally it'll be in the form of lactose, whey powder or milk powder, occasionally milk solids all used to glue the flavouring to the crisps.
You'll quite often get animal fat in the meaty flavoured crisps, so best to avoid those, and yes, cheese in cheesy flavoured ones (like mini cheddars!)
It can be a bit of a minefield, you're safe with Walkers Ready Salted, Salt and Vinegar (back to being vegan!)and Prawn Cocktail (!).

Quite often bargain packs of onion rings and 'bacon' snacks are vegan, but it varies, so you'll need to read the label.

Most of the 'posh' salted crisps are fine, just watch out for milk in the more fancy flavours, and obviously animal fats.

    Happy snacking :o)

  2. Ah thanks for the help! I'll update another blog post when i find some more snacks. I think if you're going from carnivore to vegan it really helps to know what you can snack on to avoid snacking on things you shouldn't!
